| I recently purchased a G3 from marinedepot and it doesn't come with any instructions/owner's manual. I know it is a simple design and figured out for the most part how to set everything up. However, I just have a few questions. I know that you can adjust the overflow pipe to change the water level in the sump, but how does this affect how well the skimmer works? I assume a higher water level means a wetter skimmate? What is the preferred depth of water to keep the skimmer in? I am currently building my sump myself and will have an auto top off, so the water level in the sump will be constant, but I'm not sure how deep I should make the water in the sump so that the skimmer will work the best. Also, are there instructions that are supposed to come with the skimmer? Is there anywhere that I could look them up online? Thanks Thanks,

I purchased the G3 about two mos. ago; the instruction (if you call the three pages of print out that come with the skimmer) does not tell the min. and max. water level for the sump, since I got a free 34 gal. glass tank from a friend to use as a sump so I build the sump base on the dimension given on the web. My tank is only 12” deep and the water level is about 11”, I think the min. water level is just over where the pvc tube from the pump going into the main body of the skimmer, and the max. level is just below the base of neck on the skimmer. You just have play with overflow pipe to get the optimize result, I run my overflow pipe just below the base of the neck on the skimmer, it is a little on the dry side, but if I raise the pipe higher, than the water start dripping all the way around the base of the neck. One thing I learned is don’t add water (top off or whatever) of the skimmer side of the sump, even with the water level raised for that short period of time, the collector cup almost fill to top). If by chance you find the real instruction from ASM G-3, I sure would like to see it. DC

Oh! by the way my G-3 skimmer is working very well, base by the stuff I cleaned out from the collector cup, one thing I have issue with the G-3 is the rubber seal where the pvc pipe from the pump go into the main body of the skimmer, I can't seem to get a tight fit with the rubber seal, and if I sometimes accident bump the skimmer and it get just a tiny little break and the micro bubbles be all over the sump, I am tempted to glue the rubber seal on to the skimmer.

| Thanks Apex, yeah I actually called marinedepot yesterday and spoke with someone from tech support, he couldn't seem to find anything about the recommended height either. His thought was that as long as the water level is higher than the pump than it doesn't matter. So, i think i'm going with 10" and hopefully it works well. I haven't hooked the skimmer up yet, but I know what you're talking about with the rubber seal. Just when i've put it together to dry fit everything, that piece is a pain. Glueing it sounds like a good idea. I'm planning on installing the skimmer along with my new sump on the tank tonight, so I will glue the rubber piece on before i put the skimmer in, shouldn't be difficult at all. I'll let you know how it goes. How do like the mesh mod? Did you notice a difference with it? On reefcentral, someone suggested I get the gate valve mod, anyone have any thoughts on that?
