There are lots of options when it comes to an auto top off system (ATO). The Tunze Osmolator is a good one. It will have a remote pump that pushes water from your holding tank into your sump or main tank. As with any top off system, if where you are pulling the water from is higher than where you are dumping the water you will need to install a check valve. There are ways around this though. If you water source is sitting next to your sump and you are pumping the water into the sump you will want to see what happens when the pump turns off. If it keeps siphoning you will need to change it around some by either 1) installing a check valve (more than likely the air pump ones would be ok) 2) raise the level of where the water enters the sump (I saw one time where someone used a piece of PVC pipe to extend the height where he drop the water into the sump. Basically he attached the PVC to the sump and had it extend a couple of feed above the sump and ran his ATO to the PVC pipe. The water would flow down the PVC into the sump and there was no need to install a check valve). or 3) Run the line to the main tank (but make sure the line is above the water line so it doesn't siphon out the tank water).

23 gallon should be fine, if you are losing 1.5 gallons per day that will last about 15 days.

Other good options for top off include:

SpectraPure LiterMeter III with additional top off module

JBJ ATO (you will still need a pump to pump the water, a maxi jet or Aqualifter would work)

SpectraPure Power Liquid Level Controller. This is what I use along with an Aqualifter pump. But I did modify the hanger. It comes with suction cups for the sensor and I simply don't trust suction cups longterm. I ended up gluing the sensor to an algae magnet cleaner to hold it in place.

I have my SW tank running for over 2 mos. now, just installed an Outer Orbit MH on my tank, the evaporation rate is about 1.5 gal. a day, I guess is not too bad, but I only have a 5 gal. storage container for my RO, I am thinking of put in a Top Off system and like some suggestions, since the display tank is in the family room I can't go crazy on the size of the storage tank, is 23 gal. enough for a storage tank? I am thinking about using Tunze Osmolator 3155 for my setup, I read somewhere that I need to put a check valve on the waterline going to the sump or display tank to prevent water siphon back to the storage tank, can I use air pump check valve for this? where is the best place to fill the water? to the displace tank or sump tank? I like to set up the Top Off system so that it can handle min. 10-12 days of refill, but on the instruction from Tunze that the water level should not be higher than the sump but my sump tank is only 12" high, any suggestion?
