Anemone shriveled up!

Keith is right about bubble tips some times bubbling and other times not. I am sure there is a reason, but I can not tell you what it is. I have had BTAs for years and only just recently did the ones in my 240 start forming bubble tips. I have 8 BTAs in my 240 all cloans of ones I have had for 5 years or more and never had bubbles before. None of the BTAs in my other 4 tanks have bubbles currently. I use the same water in all my tanks, I did recently add another T5 fixture over that part of the tank, but I really don't think that has anything to do with it, but it might.

Steve

RE: Help! I don't think anyone has figured out why this occurs, but in some tanks they bubble up nicely while in others they choose not to bubble.

Glad to see it is doing better, your clown seems happy in there.

RE: Help! You can also check out the books section as there are a couple of books on anemones that are good reads.

HTH,

RE: Help! Where would be a good place to find some more information on them?

RE: Help! Anemone shriveled up!

No problem Roope,

Just another quick note. I noticed you were new to the forum but I was wondering if you are new to the hobby? If so make sure you do some reading on the necessary requirements for anemones as far as water quality, lighting, water flow, feeding etc. goes. It will benefit both you and your anemone.

RE: Help! Anemone shriveled up!

Hey Roope, First of all welcome to M.D. forum,

The pic isn't all that clear but I wouldn't worry quite yet. Anemones are very strange creatures. They are mostly composed of water and can change shapes and appearence both quickly and frequently. They do so in response to tactile stimulus and light stimulus as well as other things. I've had anemones look like all stalk at one time and all tentacle at others. I would say give him some time and see if he acclimates to his new environment. Keep us posted on your observations. Again Welcome. Anemone shriveled up!

It is fairly normal for anemones to shrink down and expand out especially after feeding. More than likely it is fine. Just make sure it has some flow going over it and assuming your water quality is good it should open back up for you.

But watch it closely. When an anemone starts to go, they usually go very quickly and you should to get it out of the tank ASAP. It appears to me it is still attached to the rock (generally a good sign).

So, IMO the fact that is it new to the tank (still acclimating to the new environment) and was just fed it probably is nothing to worry about, just keep a close eye on it.

HTH,

Help!
