I have a roughly 900 gallon pond it came with the house I bought three years ago. I haven't really done much to it other than clean it. A woman I work with offered to give me a three year old koi that has outgrown her pond. What should I do to make sure I'm not introducing any bad things in my pond? I have a couple 35 gallon totes I can keep it in for a while. Also how do I acclimate it and make sure theres not too much aggression from my fish? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

what fish do you have in there now?
what is your filter system?
how big is the new fish?
qt is always a good idea however what do you have on this 35 gallon tank for filtration. a qt should have pristine water quality.
if her pond is healthy you will probably be fine putting the fish directly in your pond.

I have three 10 to 12 inch koi and one 5" goldfish
my filter is a crappy bucket system with filter media that feeds to a waterfall.
I clean the filter out every two weeks. I'm wanting to upgrade my system this summer.
my water seems to stay pretty clean, it has been running this way for about five years I bought the house three years ago.
the new fish is about 8 inches she said its three years old and was born in her pond. her pond is around 1200 gallons I'm not sure the dimensions yet.
from what I've heard she is pretty hardcore about her pond so I think she has healthy fish but I haven't seen it yet.
As for my 35 gallon tub its just a rubbermaid tote. I know thats not right for a QT but I thought I could do any dips in it if need be.
Also is there any way to tell the sex of a fish that old just by looking at it?
