Hello,
I have found myself taking care of a 300 gallon reef (and fish) tank and I am a complete newbe (it's a long story)! Anyway, the only circulation I have now is my main filtration pump (Dolphin World Series Pump 3200\2700) with 2 overflows on either side and 4 return jets. It appears to do what it is supposed to do but there are huge dead areas in the tank. I have looked at powerheads until I'm green in the gills and even considered the Tunze wavebox but the problem that I have is that my acrylic tank has a 6 inch "roof" around the edge. So if I put something like the wave box in the corner of the tank...it is completely submerged....argh! I don't have a problem drilling holes for power cords through this top but I'm reluctant to cut out complete corners to allow something like that to be put in. Hanging it in the tank 6 inches in from the edge seems a little silly too. My current front runner is the Seio pump 2600 (or two 1100's) (completely submersible and the cord is on top and it has suction cups for the wall interior). I don't have access to the side walls for magnet use. What I would appreciate is some "honest, intelligent advise" as to how I can improve water movement in this tank and to what degree. Thanks in advance for anything you can offer.
Scott

| Hi Scott, Welcome to the Marine Depot Forums . There are many different pumps/powerheads to choose from for getting the extra water movement you need within the tank. While the Seio's are ok, there are other options that may be better. I have linked a few below for you. Tunze Stream (you can go with a 6060 or 6080 if you want pumps that run 24/7 at the same flow or look at the 6101's, 1 or 2, with a single or multicontroller). This is one of the best options IMO. Maxi Jet Mod's. These have become very popular due to price compared to flow and size. A couple of these (could do more if you wanted) would give you good flow. They need to run 24/7, can not be used on a wavemaker. Hydor Koralia. Another good price compared to flow and size pump. Good bang for the buck, but you may not be able to mount it if you don't have access to the side of the tank. I would probably recommend the above three before the Seio, but the Seio also is not bad. HTH,

Thank you Keith!
If in your opinion the Tunze 6101 with the multicontroller is best best way to go....that's the way I'll go. I'm ordering it now.

| Hey Scott, Welcome to M.D. forum IME and IMO I would have to agree with Keith on the Tunze product. I have found them both functional and reliable whenever I have used them. For a tank that size I really feel they would be your best option/choice. HTH

Thanks again Tom and Keith,
Two 6101's and a multicontroller have been ordered from MD and are on their way. I think my coral and fish are already happier.
I just stumbled upon this site and forum and since my first question today, I have looked around at a few of the strings in the forum....seems like a great bunch of folks....I think I'll stick around for awhile and learn a little bit......although I'm sorry that I won't be a source of answers for a long time I'm afraid.

| Hi Scott, No problem. You don't have to worry about answering questions right away. Keep asking questions as you progress with your tank and as you learn more and more you will be able to start sharing your experiences with others. Thanks for the feedback on the forum and let us know if you have any other questions.
