| colors/effects are subject to folks... I like it (lack of white balance) well enough here. but what I take exception too is the focus. As a panned composition without a standout focal point and the potential for great depth of field... this image falls short. Your screaming wide aperture has crippled your DOF without being in focus on a single section or subject. My advice is to stop the action faster (and keep your Ap wide if you still prefer) to sharper the composition. For this you will need more light. Or... stop up (still need more light). Or... if you like these settings, frame the field tighter and grab a subject to standout in focus) and pull the eye/viewer in. It has the potential to make a very fine image with just a bit of tweaking. Youare using a tripod, yes? If not... what shutter speed are you shooting?

| with all due respect Anthony, you do realise this is presented as a PURE FLUORESCENCE shot? As such, WB is essentially not applicable, however I have adjusted where possible to represent the scene accurately. While I gratefully take you comments on board, as I am sure you realise, compromises must be made in such situations and even shooting at 1/250 and two stops down from max aperture with a sharp prime such a shot can suffer from softness. Another problem is focusing in pitch darkness without disturbing the tank. I have to say I thought that I did a pretty good job with it myself considering the new territory being broken. I am obviously aware of fluorescence shots focussing on single subjects, but can you perhaps point me to ANY other examples of such a full tank composition?

| its been bothering me this...... actually checking this morning, as well as reducing image dimensions, I notice the board is automtically reducing image quality too - as an example, the original file size of the top image is about 96k in the linked image, yet here it is reduced by nearly 50% to 40k! No wonder some of the sharpness has gone!! Good points though... one major problem I had, despite using a tripod, was the need to hold the yellow barrier filter to the end of the lens (50mm f1.8 doesn't have a lens thread!). I think I will look into getting a filter for my Sigma 10-20. Probably cost a bit though as its a 78mm I think.

| here's the tank 'by day' (again at low quality due to the board).
Having checked, a 77mm K2 yellow filter is pretty pricey, so it may have to wait for a bit!

sorry for the long delay... I have been largely away since MACNA! No, I did not realize it was a pure FL shot, my friend. I likely was answering mail too quickly or road weary from travel (to/from Africa! and answering from airports and the like)
Do you have means to post your pics (unsized) on your website or a photo site and then link us to it? That will address the downsizing issue of this/most message boards.
kindly, Anth-
