....is a water garden with Koi. I noticed on another thread that someone said a Koi pond is not a water garden. I am curious why?

Basically size, depth, turnover and filtration. A koi pond needs high flow and excellent filtration, neither of which are ideal for bog plants.
Seahorse Aquatics: yes, we have no seahorses.

It seems like the combo pond combines the best of both worlds?
We do have a bog area where the fish can't go, although they do get curious! Every once in a while, one gets up there and has to flop back! And, the big ones do like to push plants off the shelves.
I know some people are really into the specifics of the Koi. My brother knows all the Japanese names for his, and tells me they could be worth thousands if they were born in Japan? "You can't be born in Utah and be a Japanese Koi".
So, those that have Koi ponds, do they have any plants? Not in the water, just on the sides? Out of the water?
(I miss summer)

| Hi California folks! You have a cool forum going here. I raise koi, I really think you guys get first pick of the nice fish and send us the rest. I have Japanese stock but they all have one flaw or another and to get a truly outstandinig koi here, you have to spend a lot. I'm hoping I can raise a few babies that will be showable, but I'm the one who told seawhisperer (my sis) that a Utah koi will never be a Japanese koi. I don't have to tell, though, do I?

Well, there goes the neighborhood!
So, we now have bilateral Matts!
Your fish are gorgeous! I can't see any flaws. They look really healthy.

| I'm a sucker for Utsuri' myself, but I'd certainly trade for Goshiki like the one the koi show you posted! It's hard to get Showa here and I've never seen a Goshiki. We just settle for what's pretty.

Sis, someday I'll give you a lesson in why this fish won't win at any koi shows.
